Apple is reportedly looking to provide ambient light sensors on upcoming AirPods that might be capable of measuring heart rate and blood-oxygen saturation amounts among other vitals. As per 2 separate reports from DigiTimes , Apple company has roped in ASE Technology to supply components that will help equip forthcoming AirPods with ambient light detectors for health monitoring duties.
“ Taiwan’ s backend leader ASE Technology is ready to apply its SESUB (semiconductor inlayed in substrate)-based SiP packaging technologies to next-generation TWS (true cellular stereo) earphones to be rolled out there by Apple company , ” the DigiTimes statement says. The report adds how the ambient light sensors will appear upon AirPods in the next 1-2 years.
However, it must be noted that will ambient light sensors rely on transferring light through the skin and examine blood movement in the vessels in order to detect the heart rate or any additional data. But equipping them around the AirPods will require the wearable become redesigned, which means it will take at least one or even two product generations before we all get redesigned AirPods with wellness monitoring capabilities.
